Cinematography Practical Task

Video My video is in the thriller genre and frames the subject more regularly from far away to build a sense of mystery and to create tension around the antagonist.

Conclave review

Conclave is a drama and political thriller about the choice of a new pope after the last one died from the viewpoint of a man of high power in the church and the mysteries discovered about his fellow cardinals that have the chance to become the next pope. The film is an interesting insight into a dramatised version of the inter-workings of the Sistine Chapel. The cinematography of the film was very creative and intriguing to look at which helped the viewing experience because at times the movie can move quite slow and drawn out but the bright reds of their cloaks and great composition captivated me into the story that was build. Furthermore, I think the drawn out tension leads to us , as an audience, feeling as if we are in the protagonists position and the slow build up leads to a satisfying conclusion once the film ends.

Clueless review

Clueless is a typical rom-com, coming of age story with the main character (Cher) being the stereotypical 'popular girl' at her school and meets a new girl which leads to Cher wanting to help her. The film follows most conventions of the genres it sets which is usually what an audience would like from a genre such as a  rom-com however, this does lead to the story feeling quite generic. In my opinion, the humour is the highlight of the movie with most the jokes being well timed and  eventuated by the performances. My least favourite part of the movie is that the end love interest for our protagonist is her step-brother which felt odd, especially from a more modern viewpoint as in the 90's it may not have been widely seen as an issue.

Sound video feedback and response

1) WWW: Good pace of editing, Fulfils brief very well, well chosen track, clear contrast      EBI: More varied choice of images, too much of the graveyard 2) WWW: contrapuntal and parallel are clear, good music, good editing, good use of own images     EBI: More variety of images, 3) I think that the best part of my video was the clear contrast between the contrapuntal and parallel sound and the choice of upbeat music that made it clear. I also think my editing was good as it was in time with the music and had fades between images on the montage of child photos part. However, I should've added more variety with the graveyard videos as it began to get repetitive. 4) I think the top three in the class are neev, Alezay and jaspreet because they had a clear difference between both the contrapuntal and parallel sound and unlike mine they had more variety of images which is what I can learn from their videos. 5) I learned that sound can pivot the view of a scene and c...

Sound analysis

1) Find a film clip on YouTube that uses sound in an interesting way. Analyse the use of sound, making sure you use the key language we have learned about sound in film: clip The clip is from the end scene of season one of Arcane therefore the  non-diegetic music is dramatic and builds up which is parallel   to the scene of Jinx shooting the rocket as the tension is also building up. The lyrics of the song are also paralle l to that scene since the line "I'm the monster you created" is related to Jinx's story in the show. In addition, there is a voice over from slice saying "we will show them, we will show them all" which is mostly non-diegetic as the other characters can't hear it and he isn't actually saying it in that moment however it's as though Jinx hears it so it could also be diegetic.  Furthermore, there are scenes of other characters that have dialogue to continue the plot which still has the music that better relates to the scene ...
