Mise-en-scene blog task

The costumes are superhero outfits which illustrates that this falls in the action and/or sci-fi genre. The lighting is mostly low-key apart from the main blast of high-key light which is used to portray the strength of both characters. The actors are places mostly central on the screen and each are posed to make the shot look mostly symmetrical and this framing of them to both be equal conveys that they are similar although being on opposing sides of the fight. The setting is a disheveled/ broken down building and it is in the foreground of this long- shot whilst the main action is in the mid-ground of the scene which shows the setting to be almost enclosing and trapping them in whilst they fight possibly suggesting a negative mental state during the fight.

Barbarian Clip  (Horror/Thriller)

Lord of the Rings Clip (Fantasy)

Each clip had different coloured lighting the horror movie was more washed out and had cooler toned lighting which represents the more bleak and frightening situation the characters find themselves in whilst the fantasy film had warmer tones throughout which represents the more hopeful tone of a fantasy adventure. The costumes in each clip were also very different in Barbarian the protagonists clothing was dirty and her hair was messed up with very little make up whereas, in the Lord of the Rings some characters had elf ears, a wizard hat and most characters are wearing cloaks. In the Lord of the rings clip  the characters had conventional props for the fantasy genre such as a staff and bow and arrows. The settings were both different as the lord of the rings clip showed some establishing shots of grassy mountains and the castle-like place the scene was taking place whilst the barbarian clip's setting is a mostly regular house and garden. In the lord of the rings clip most of the facial expressions of the characters were stoic and serious which is expected for this genre and in the Barbarian clip the actress' body language and facial expressions were horrified and distressed due to the threat which is also expected for it's genre.
