- The character is confessing to murder which uses the high contrast, low-key lighting to emphasise the bleak situation. The character is top lit so the audience can view his facial expressions but he is wearing a hat which casts a harsh shadow which is conventional for this genre of film and it could represent how he kept parts of himself secret but is now revealing it so now the majority of his face is lit.
