 1) Discuss what your preliminary exercise will involve – make notes on your blogpost of location, sequence of events, casting etc.

Location - classroom

Characters - dhurata, shymia

Sequence of events - Shymia walks in the room and dhurata gets annoyed with her but shymia is hiding something from her.

2) Write a short script for the preliminary exercise. Remember, scripts outline movement and shots as well as dialogue. The BBC Writer's Room is a brilliant resource for tips and examples of TV scriptwriting. Here's a genuine TV script example from Luther to check you are formatting your script correctly.

                        INT. OUTSIDE CLASSROOM

Shymia, an undercover investigator for the past five years has become tired of being walked on by her boss Dhurata.She decided to take matters into her own hands and mess up the criminal investigation they should be working on.

Shymia walks up to the door.

INT. INSIDE CLASSROOM

Establishing shot of Dhurata waiting for Shymia to arrive.When she does Dhurata opens the door.

Shymia and Dhurata sit across from each other, staring. Shymia seems nervous and Dhurata is angry.

Shymia gets up and is about to walk out when something falls out of her top. It is revealed as document C.

The costumes are superhero outfits which illustrates that this falls in the action and/or sci-fi genre. The lighting is mostly low-key apart from the main blast of high-key light which is used to portray the strength of both characters. The actors are places mostly central on the screen and each are posed to make the shot look mostly symmetrical and this framing of them to both be equal conveys that they are similar although being on opposing sides of the fight. The setting is a disheveled/ broken down building and it is in the foreground of this long- shot whilst the main action is in the mid-ground of the scene which shows the setting to be almost enclosing and trapping them in whilst they fight possibly suggesting a negative mental state during the fight. 1) -Top lighting - Low-key lighting - The subject is mostly in shadow which creates enigma codes and the lighting emphasises the smoke in front of her which connotes to mystery. 2) - Top lighting - Low-key lighting - The low-key lighting puts emphasis on her face and creates a sense of elegance. 3) - Top and back lighting - Mostly high-key but around his face low-key  lighting - The harsh shadows on face emphasise furrowed brows and stern expression. 4) - Back lighting - Low-key lighting - The lighting makes the character look like a  silhouette and makes him seem important and mysterious. 5) - Back lighting - Low-key lighting - The lighting from the blinds creates a tone of secrecy surrounding their romance. 6) - Top lighting - Low-key lighting - Half of the subject is covered in shadow which could represent a conflict. 7) - Top lighting - High-key lighting - The lighting coming from above and their hands positioned in a prayer pose creates religious imagery. 8) - Back l...

      Blade Runner: -  Colour/ lighting  is dark next to  antagonist  and light next to  protagonist  ( binary oppositions ). -  Close up  shot for  facial expression  conveys a stern expression which shows the  action genre. -  Target audience  is adults. -  High angle   to show futuristic city ( setting )illustrating the  sci-fi genre -  Action codes  and  enigma codes  are shown with the hero holding a gun ( prop ) which poses questions for the audience.
